A COMPANION TO BONDS

The Thunderdelve orb is a crystalline object caught inside the Shroud’s deeper working. Its pulses interact with the chamber and with damaged places along the road. Cloth, ward-ink, a metal cradle, and repeated maintenance allow the company to move it, but the traveling containment remains a temporary solution.[1]

Reading its response

The orb answers nearby wards and disturbed currents. Those responses guide investigation but do not, by themselves, prove that it thinks or recognizes people as a living mind would. Lirael explicitly separates observed response from unproven awareness.

Where the burden is left[1]

The company initially intends to take the orb to Elarisel. At Dawnwatch, they find a structure designed to bear its charge and seat it in the central cradle. The Hold accepts the transfer; Sylas leaves without the orb.
