Line-keeper songs are working music used for step counts, breathing, and maintenance order. Their apparently simple repetition carries practical knowledge that can survive beyond a written map. Elara’s trained ear lets her notice when a stress or shortened note is doing more than filling a verse.[1]

A route hidden in the verse[1]

In an archive songbook, Elara recognizes an early stress as a climb and a shortened hold as a turn. The verse preserves only part of a route beyond the city, not a complete destination. This discovery also exposes a danger: the Shroud can exploit an old path without breaking a gate if it learns the maintenance language.
