The ley is the current beneath the world that Sylas has learned to feel as pressure at the edge of hearing. Its pathways cross beneath places where people live and travel. Disturbances can change how familiar magic responds, giving the companions warnings that ordinary sight might miss.[1]

In BONDS[1]

Convergences

Lirael explains that when enough currents meet, their force can multiply rather than simply add together. The condition of one crossing may therefore matter beyond its immediate surroundings. Learning to distinguish a strained current from a damaged one becomes important in BONDS.

Damage across distance

Connected currents can carry consequences far beyond a single damaged site. In the Vale, the companions identify a false cadence that could affect water, fields, animals, and downstream wards. Revisiting a repair and observing ordinary recovery matters as much as ending the immediate working.

A burden needs a path[2]

The later journey distinguishes damaging a channel, redirecting current through it, and forcing the boundary of the Veil. The Shroud joins wounded convergences into a network that carries Myth Celador’s strain outward. Breaking a connection can move that pressure somewhere worse. The successful release depends on opening a receiving path before loosening what holds the load.
