A method moving through damaged places

The Shroud of Mourning is the name the company encounters behind deliberate injuries to ley workings and the Veil. Its reach is visible through ritual sites, road violence, watchers, and communities learning to remain silent. The companions must distinguish confirmed members from frightened locals who help maintain the pattern.[1]

In BONDS[1]

Recognizing a pattern

Elowen’s journal treats the moving Mourning as a method. Lirael connects repeated damage with the possibility of teaching smaller wounds to answer larger ones. In Roaringwater, fear, repetition, and expectation help make the town’s ordinary behavior part of that work.

Following the evidence

The company traces repeated alterations across road infrastructure, woodland roots, and ruined wards. Local accounts use several names, so a witness’s label is only part of the evidence.

Myth Celador’s reach[2]

The Shroud uses the damaged network to extend the Mourning King’s influence beyond Myth Celador. People and beasts are forced into conduits able to carry strain that stone rejects. The old Onyx Syndicate name provides useful cover, while its surviving infrastructure supplies a ready framework.

After the local operation[2]

Vaeril’s release ends the particular operation centered on his binding. The Epilogue still speaks of Shroud cells and caches, and a recovered shard remains under observation. BONDS does not establish that the entire organization has been destroyed.
