A COMPANION TO BONDS

Brask is a ferryman at Roaringwater’s northwest dock who now spends much of his time watching movement along the river. He knows how the town’s silence is enforced and how travelers are identified. His river-stone mark offers a connection to people who still recognize the old signs at the crossings.[1]

An observant, guarded manner[1]

Brask’s lean frame and weathered hands fit the river work that has shaped him. He notices the company’s numbers, weapons, and staff before Sylas explains his purpose, and his dry assessment offers little reassurance. Questions bring pauses, glances, and carefully limited answers. When he does not know what happened to someone, he says so; his knowledge of the valley does not make every disappearance an answered question.

Story & history[1]

The river-ward

The stone and cord identify a traveler as vouched for by someone trusted at the crossing. The mark has no magical force of its own. Carrying it can also draw the attention of people on either side of the conflict.

The cost of speaking[1]

Brask connects the silent blue-shuttered house to a woman who spoke the Shroud’s name in public. He cannot tell Sylas whether she is still alive. His limited answers expose the pressure on the town without resolving every missing person’s fate.
