This entry records worldbuilding facts that have reached a level of dependency at which casual alteration would create contradictions across multiple codices, stories, or physical systems.
A Hard Canon Lock is not merely a current preference.
It is a controlling fact.
Changing a Hard Canon Lock requires:
- identifying every dependent codex
- reopening affected calculations
- reconciling manuscript continuity
- documenting the change in the Canon Decision & Open-Question Ledger
The following locks establish the current physical, chronological, celestial, and geographic architecture of Eldarûn.
I. Eldarûn Planetary Chassis
Eldarûn is an Earth-equivalent terrestrial planet.
The following values are hard-locked:
- mean planetary radius — approximately 6,371 km
- mean planetary diameter — approximately 12,742 km
- planetary mass — approximately 5.97 × 10²⁴ kg
- mean Surface gravity — approximately 1 g / 9.81 m/s²
- mean solar day — 24 hours
- sidereal rotation period — approximately 23 h 56 m 4 s
- axial tilt / obliquity — approximately 23.44°
- tropical / seasonal year — approximately 365.2422 days
- sidereal year — approximately 365.2564 days
- average solar energy received at the Surface — broadly Earth-comparable
These values support the established:
- climate framework
- seasonal structure
- civil calendar
- human-scale movement
- biosphere baseline
- and lunar system
They are not to be altered casually.
II. Civil Time
The following chronological structures are hard-locked:
- civil day — 24 hours
- hour — 60 minutes
- minute — 60 seconds
- civil date changes at midnight
- week — 7 days
- common civil year — 365 days
- leap civil year — 366 days
- leap day — 29 Febren
- common calendar — 12 months
- leap-year rule — divisible by 4, excluding century years unless divisible by 400
The civil calendar is solar-civil rather than purely lunar.
III. Seryn — White Moon
Seryn is the nearest moon and the fixed astronomical reference body of Eldarûn.
Hard-locked values:
- common name — Seryn
- identity — White Moon
- mean orbital distance — approximately 384,400 km
- sidereal orbital period — approximately 27.32166 days
- synodic phase cycle — approximately 29.53059 days
- draconic period — approximately 27.21222 days
- anomalistic period — approximately 27.55455 days
- orbital inclination — approximately 5.145°
- orbital eccentricity — approximately 0.0549
- nodal regression — approximately 18.6 years
- principal regular lunar tidal influence
Seryn uses an Earth-Moon-equivalent orbital chassis.
Its orbital architecture and Eldarûn's planetary chassis are mathematically coupled.
IV. Nymara — Blue Moon
The following Nymaran values are hard or working-hard locks:
- common name — Nymara
- identity — Blue Moon
- orbital position — middle moon
- mean orbital distance — approximately 504,035 km
- sidereal orbital period — approximately 41.0226 days
- synodic phase cycle — approximately 46.2128 days
- draconic period — approximately 40.9026 days
- nodal regression — approximately 38.3 years
- physical mass must remain materially lower than Seryn's
The following remain technically pending:
- exact mass
- exact radius
- exact density
- exact inclination
- exact eccentricity
- exact anomalistic period
V. Kharos — Broken Violet Moon
The following Kharic values are hard or working-hard locks:
- common name — Kharos
- identity — Broken Violet Moon
- orbital position — outer moon
- mean orbital distance — approximately 610,150 km
- sidereal orbital period — approximately 54.6367 days
- synodic phase cycle — approximately 64.2470 days
- draconic period — approximately 54.4242 days
- nodal regression — approximately 38.3 years
- Kharos is physically shattered
- the principal remnant possesses a permanent crescent-like structural silhouette
- Kharos was once whole
- the established three-moon orbital architecture predates Kharos's destruction
- the surviving principal remnant retained broadly the ancient orbit
- Kharos is accompanied by the Shardwake
- major Shardwake fragments are ancient
- fine luminous Shardwake material is dynamically replenished
- moonstone falls can originate from Kharic debris
The following remain technically pending:
- original mass
- original radius
- surviving mass
- surviving dimensions
- exact inclination
- exact eccentricity
- exact anomalistic period
VI. Three-Moon Orbital Architecture
The established sidereal-period relationships are approximately:
These relationships are presently classified as close orbital commensurabilities.
They are not yet hard-locked as a confirmed mean-motion resonance chain.
Confirmation requires dynamical modeling capable of demonstrating the relevant resonant behavior rather than merely similar period ratios.
VII. Grand Syzygy / Threefold Dark
The astronomical event is formally called the Grand Syzygy. Its widely used common name is the Threefold Dark.
Hard-locked properties:
- recurrence — approximately 13,170.64 days
- recurrence — approximately 36.06 solar years
- event type — triple lunar eclipse
- intended principal-body eclipse state — triple total lunar eclipse
- Seryn, Nymara, and Kharos approach full phase
- all three reach suitable eclipse-node geometry
- all three enter Eldarûn's umbral shadow during the same event
- separate eclipse chords allow all three principal lunar bodies to remain distinguishable
- the event can produce unusually strong compound tides
- the astronomical event itself is natural
- the alignment temporarily alters ambient ley responsiveness
- the event does not automatically tear the Veil
- the event does not create unrestricted magic
- the event does not automatically create portals
Because 36.06 solar years is not exactly thirty-six civil years, the Threefold Dark shifts by roughly three weeks relative to a simple thirty-six-year civil anniversary.
VIII. Celestial Dependency Lock
The following systems are mutually dependent:
Eldarûn planetary chassis
↓
solar year and seasonal calendar
↓
Seryn orbital architecture
↓
Nymara and Kharos orbital architecture
↓
Grand Syzygy recurrence
A material alteration to one of these systems requires formal review of the others.
This dependency is itself hard canon.
IX. Mortal Reckoning & Present-Year Lock
The common modern historical year-count is Mortal Reckoning, abbreviated MR.
- Mortal Reckoning begins with the First Concord
- the first year of the common civil count is 1 MR
- the present broad historical age is the Mortal Age
- the exact MR year of the current narrative era remains intentionally unassigned
- Year 311 After Dawn is an institutional Sentinel reckoning and is not the same thing as 311 MR
A present-year number must not be assigned until the master historical chronology in Part IX is developed far enough to support it without forcing arbitrary dates onto unresolved history.
X. Continental & Maritime Architecture
Eldarûn possesses seven major continental-scale landmasses. The count is fixed.
- 1 — the Primary Continent
- 2 — the Aeshkar-dominant continent
- 3 — the Ferathi-majority continent
- 4–6 — three additional major nonpolar continents
- 7 — the Southern Polar Continent
The ancestral Tazhuran homeland is a major archipelago and is not one of the seven continents.
The Primary, Ferathi, and Aeshkari continental worlds have a fixed macro-spatial relationship: the Ferathi-majority continent lies within the wider maritime sphere between the Primary and Aeshkari worlds, biased closer to Aeshkar than to an exact midpoint, with substantial ocean separating all three.
Eldarûn possesses one connected world-ocean divided into five major named ocean basins:
- Stormvault Ocean
- Greywake Ocean
- Sunreach Ocean
- Frostcrown Ocean
- Southring Ocean
Common cosmographic usage additionally recognizes approximately fifty-four major seas. Additional minor seas, gulfs, bays, straits, and regional waters may exist without altering that common major-sea inventory.
Final continental silhouettes, proper names where still open, exact coastlines, ocean-basin boundaries, and placement of the major seas remain cartography-dependent unless separately locked.
XI. Geographic Continuity Authority
Established geography is binding evidence, not disposable draft convenience.
- established settlements and named places may not be casually relocated
- locked route order, direction, travel duration, and transport mode must be preserved
- major watershed relationships and settlement-to-feature relationships must remain coherent
- unresolved coastline, river, road, forest, wetland, mountain, and regional geometry does not authorize movement of already established places
- Part VII — Lands & Realms is the reader-facing canonical home for integrated geography
- the master cartographic ledger remains the technical authority for precise placement and unresolved geometry
- external cartographic scaffolding is technical working material only and is not Eldarûn canon
· Roaringwater remains on the east side of the Ashrun at the corrected Ashrun–Shimmerbrook confluence; the corrected local bend and confluence relationship may not be reversed by later geometry work.
· the Upper Ashrun Cataract exists, but its exact map position remains unresolved unless direct registered-source evidence supports a placement; river geometry must not be forced to invent certainty
When a genuine contradiction is discovered, it must be reconciled explicitly through the Canon Decision & Open-Question Ledger rather than silently resolved by convenience.
