Thorek Deepvein is a dwarven prospector and mine owner in Branloch. A longtime friend and collaborator of Tavian Brenwick, he needs the caravan’s tools and supplies while his town becomes harder to keep working. He combines a warm welcome with a direct assessment of the danger around him.[3]

Appearance and working gear[1]

Thorek has broad shoulders, a thick chest, and a weathered face animated by lively eyes. His auburn beard is braided and threaded with silver. Good, well-used clothes and stone-dusted boots place him close to the work he owns. The polished pickaxe at his side is a particularly persistent sign of his trade.

Warmth and practical judgment[1]

Thorek can greet an old associate with an insult and still give strangers a careful assessment before welcoming them. His exchanges with Tavian combine familiar jokes with attention to cargo and the cost of delay. He does not hide Branloch’s problems once asked, and is willing to seek a ward-scholar when mining experience no longer explains what is happening.

Story & history[3]

A local ally

Thorek notices the missing people, equipment, livestock, and disturbing reports from the eastern hills. He sends for Lirael because Branloch’s failing spellwork needs knowledge beyond an honest miner’s experience.

Shelter and transport[4]

After Thunderdelve, Thorek houses the company inside his warded estate. He arranges a reinforced carriage with a concealed compartment and a warded plate, providing a practical way to transport the recovered orb.

Hands for the rebuilding[5]

Thorek arrives at Dawnwatch with Tavian and a caravan from Branloch after hearing that the stronghold needs work. He brings practical judgment about braces, load-bearing corners, and the slow task of making a ruined hold habitable.
