The present narrative era belongs to the Mortal Age. Gods, relics, ley, World Trees, and ancient powers remain real, but kingdoms, cities, peoples, factions, institutions, trade networks, wars, and mortal choices are the principal drivers of recorded history.
The common modern year-count is Mortal Reckoning, abbreviated MR, beginning with the First Concord at 1 MR. The exact MR year of the current narrative era remains intentionally unassigned until the global chronology is sufficiently developed to support it.
After Dawn is a separate institutional Sentinel reckoning. A record such as Year 311 After Dawn cannot be converted into MR without first establishing the chronological relationship between the Sentinel anchor and the First Concord.
I. Defining Conditions of the Present Age
· Ancient systems are re-entering mortal history. Zodiac relics, Sentinel strongholds, damaged nexuses, Old God residues, sealed Rootveil knowledge, and long-buried institutions are no longer safely passive.
· The Shroud of Mourning demonstrates that an ancient catastrophe can produce a modern cult capable of carrying its wound outward.
· The rediscovery of Dawnwatch Hold creates the conditions for the Sentinels of Flame: a new order inheriting old responsibility without receiving old legitimacy automatically.
· The Umbral Covenant demonstrates the next evolution of the threat: political and spiritual fracture weaponized through pactcraft, false witness, oath-corruption, and covert cells.
· The Redmark crisis turns these pressures into a test of whether the young Sentinels can protect a people without claiming ownership of its culture, memory, or future.
II. Dating Rule for Current Narratives
Until Part IX closes the remaining historical gaps, manuscripts may use civil month/day structure, relative chronology, reign-years, local reckonings, After Dawn where appropriate, and references to known recent events. They should not invent a current MR number merely for convenience.
