Daybreak Pass is the mountain route beyond Lorchel. Its lower road still bears wagon ruts, but washouts, fallen stone, frost, and narrow cuts make the climb difficult. Old accounts also describe a northern spur leading upward toward watch-stairs and a hidden refuge.[1]

The limits of the road

The company leaves its carriage and horses in Lorchel and carries the orb, food, cold-weather gear, and climbing cord on foot. Knowledge of the route and the ability to help one another matter as much as speed.

The climb toward Dawnwatch[1]
